Inquiry finds poor police investigation

An inquiry filed the Missing Women Inquiry paints a surprising picture on how police forces in the Greater Vancouver Area handled the case.

According to the Globe & Mail, the Vancouver Police Department and the RCMP were the main forces named in the inquiry. Vancouver Police didn't pursue Robert Pickton because he was in RCMP territory. They also criticized the Mounties for botching an interview with Pickton.

The RCMP retaliated by accusing Vancouver Police of not prioritizing the case. This in turn could have put Pickton behind bars sooner.

Robert Pickton, currently in prison, admitted to killing 49 women in Vancouver downtown east side. He was only charged in 26 murders and is serving life.
